Dear Parents-Guardians, My name is Gussie Adamo and I'd like to extend my appreciation for the warm welcome I've received from you and also would like to relay the fact that I am thrilled to be here to service you and your children here in the Library. I'd like to take a moment and share with you some of the things that we do in the library besides of course checking out books: -Students are taught Library Skills (grade level appropriate) kinder's are taught that each book has a special place and that they are in ABC order by Author's last name. 1st graders are taught the same and sometimes we will do some skill games to reinforce this skill. 2nd grades and up are taught on our on-line card catalog where they look up books write the Call # and try to locate the book in our library. -Students are read to from carefully selected books such as the California Young Readers Medal where they are given ballots and vote on the book they like the best. I then send in our count to the CYRM Committee and wait for the outcome as they tally up the ballots from the entire state of California. There are different categories- primary level -intermediate level grades 3-6 -older picture book level grades 3-6 -middle school level grades 6-9. I only read the primary level and older picture book level. If students want to participate in the chapter fiction level they must read all titles on their own. This, I believe is a good chance for your children to voice their own opinion about something. It's fun and they do enjoy it. -Students may also utilize our on-line Data Bases (World Book Encyclopedia) where they can do various research. A wonderful tool that I hope will be useful to all our students. It has been a while since our library has been up and running and we hope that with time we will be able to update our collection. It will be a long process, but if you can and wish to donate a book for our Library, I have a wish list of desired titles. Thank you and please stop by and visit when you can.
